Madonna M. Hankemeier age 78 of Andrew Iowa died on Friday morning September 182009.0 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday September 222009.0 from the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew Iowa. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 P.M. on Monday September 21, 2009.0 from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa Iowa. Burial will be at the Andrew Iowa Cemetery.

Madonna M. Specht was born on December 9 1930 in Jackson County Iowa to William "Bill" Specht and Mathilda (Westphal) Specht. She grew up in the Codfish Hollow area of Jackson County and was a 1948 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School. She married Edwin C. Hankemeier on January 23 1949 in Maquoketa Iowa.

Madonna was a homemaker and had farmed with her husband in the Andrew area for many years. She had also worked in the home healthcare field for several years.

Madonna was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church "Country Club" and the Andrew Garden Club. She enjoyed dancing bowling reading love stories playing euchre flowers and puzzle books mainly crosswords and word searches. Her grandchildren were especially important to her.

Madonna is survived by her husband Edwin Hankemeier of Andrew IA; children Darcy (Brenda) Hankemeier of Maquoketa IA and Darla Michels of Bellevue IA; 7 grandchildren 3 great-grandchildren; a brother Larry (Karen) Specht of Maquoketa IA; a sister Lucille Reindorp of Albuquerque NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents a brother Leon Specht a sister Eleanor Keeney a son-in-law David Michels a grandson Chris Hankemeier and a great-granddaughter Aleah Rose Steffen.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew Iowa.

ANDREW, Iowa -- Madonna M. Hankemeier, 78, of Andrew, died Friday morning, Sept. 18, 2009, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
