Edwin C. "Eddie" Hankemeier, 88, of Andrew, Iowa, died on Thursday afternoon, November 11, 2010, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 15, 2010, from the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 P.M. on Sunday, November 14, 2010, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at the Andrew, Iowa Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded.

Edwin C. Hankemeier was born on July 31, 1922 in Jackson County, Iowa to Henry Christoph and Bertha Jane (Siegel) Hankemeier. He grew up in the Andrew area and attended Jackson County country schools. He was a World War II veteran of the Army serving from September 2, 1944 until receiving an honorable discharge on August 5, 1946. He married Madonna M. Specht on January 23, 1949 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2009.

"Eddie" was a lifelong farmer in the Andrew area. He cultivated the land, raised hogs, chickens and cattle and was a member of the Jackson County Pork Producers and Jackson County Farm Bureau.

"Eddie" was also a member of the Salem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing cards, lawn mowing and tending the garden. He was an avid WWF wrestling fan.

"Eddie" is survived by his children, Darcy (Brenda) Hankemeier of Maquoketa, IA, and Darla Michels of Bellevue, IA; 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Velma) Hankemeier of Maquoketa, IA; a sister, Bernice Bartels of Delmar, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, a son-in-law, David Michels, a grandson, Chris Hankemeier, and a great-granddaughter, Aleah Rose Steffen.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, Iowa.
