RITA L. HERTING

Rita L. (Kieffer) Herting, 87, of Dubuque, passed away peacefully into eternal life Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Trinity Center at Luther Park, Des Moines.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Joseph Hauer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on April 26, 1923, in Bellevue, Iowa, daughter of Harvey and Amelia (Norpel) Kieffer. She married Raymond J. Herting on June 2, 1947, in Dubuque; he preceded her in death on June 29, 1993.

She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church. Her Catholic faith and her church were always very important to her.

Rita was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and being with family. She also enjoyed being of service to others and was employed for many years in various capacities caring for the elderly. Rita will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, Roger (Theresa), of Olathe, Kan., John (Kathy), of East Dubuque, Ill., Richard (Janie), of Ankeny, Iowa, Mark (Brenda) Herting, of Burnsville, Minn., Jodi Stubbs, of Ankeny, and Sue (Charlie) Peterson, of St. Charles, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Brother Larry Kieffer, SVD, of Papua, New Guinea; and her sister Lois (Raymond) Klotz, of St. Louis.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Donald, Robert and Carl Kieffer; and a sister, Norma Gibbs.
