Deceased Name: THOMAS J. LAMPE

Thomas J. "Tom" Lampe, 60, 2891 Northridge Drive, died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 1998, at The Finley Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a St. Mary's Catholic Church Parish Christian wake service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Lampe worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co. for 28 years, until it closed. He worked at the former FDL Foods Inc. until 1981. He then spent 18 months working for the Iowa Pork Industries, of Minnesota. Until his death, he had been the owner and operator of L & S Enterprises Construction. He also retired from the Army Reserves in 1981, after 22 years of service.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1937, in Bellevue, Iowa, son of Arion and Mary (Heiar) Lampe. He married Jane A. Schuster on May 12, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He grew up in Bellevue and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School, in Bellevue, in 1956. He then attended Loras College.

He was a devoted husband, a loving father and an inspiration to his children. He also enjoyed his grandchildren, friends, playing cards and traveling.

Surviving are his wife, Jane A. (Schuster) Lampe; two daughters, Kay M. (Richard) Lampe Hannasch, of Huxley, Iowa, and Ann M. (John) Richardson, of Vista, Calif.; two sons, Thomas J. Lampe Jr., of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Douglas E. (Ann) Lampe, of Waterloo, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jill and Holly Lampe, Kellie and Jerad Richardson, Marcus Lampe and Margaret "Meg" Hannasch; a sister, Veronica (Richard) Voss, of Dubuque; and three brothers, Cy N. (Kay) Lampe, of Dubuque, Alfred (Bernice) Lampe, of Bellevue, and A. Edward (Katie) Lampe Jr., of Bettendorf, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbert Lampe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Wendt Regional Cancer Center at The Finley Hospital and the American Lung Association.
