BELLEVUE, Iowa - Carl W. Kieffer, 69, of 600 Park St., Bellevue, died Sunday morning, Sept. 29, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Reveille Post 273 of Bellevue. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kingery Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bellevue.

He was born on Jan. 18, 1933, in Bellevue, son of Harvey and Amelia (Norpel) Kieffer. He graduated from St. Joseph's High School, Bellevue, in 1950. He married Leona Cleary on April 27, 1957, in Petersville.

He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a plumber and contractor at Kieffer Plumbing and Heating Co., Bellevue. He was very active in his retirement and enjoyed rebuilding cars and trucks.

He was a member of the American Legion Reveille Post 273 of Bellevue and the Bellevue Knights of Columbus Council 1354. He served on the Board of Directors for Mill Valley Care Center and had been a volunteer with the Bellevue Fire Department for 30 years, serving as fire chief for 10 years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Leona; four sons, Dennis, John (Suzanne), Joe and friend Shelly, of Bellevue, and Tom, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Mary (Loras) Sieverding, of La Motte, and Kathy (Tom) Davis, of Bellevue; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Roeder, of St. Louis, and Rita Herting, of Dubuque; two brothers, Robert Kieffer, of Bellevue, and Larry Kieffer SVD, of Papua, New Guinea.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Kieffer; and a sister, Norma Gibbs.
