Deceased Name: Ermanilda "Erma" WeisSPRINGBROOK, Iowa - Ermanilda Weis, 93, of Springbrook, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Mill Valley Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook, with the Rev. Paul Lippstock officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home, Bellevue. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
She was born on June 13, 1916, in Rural Spragueville, daughter of Louis and Katherine (Weimerskirch) Portz. She married Leo Weis on Oct. 26, 1937, in Springbrook, they celebrated 65 years of marriage; he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2003.
Erma raised five children while helping her husband Leo run the family farm. She was a hardworking, loving and nurturing person whose life centered around her family. Spending time with her grandchildren, playing games and cooking for them made her happy.
Her faith and spirituality were also of great importance to her. She was a member of the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook. She also was a member of the Springbrook Quilters and Senior Citizen Groups.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and baking. She was a wonderful lady who will truly be missed by all.
Surviving are her children, Juanita (Richard) Cottrell, of Dubuque, Lonnie (Victoria Manikowski) Weis, of Maquoketa, Dwain Weis, of Miles, Maxine (Steve) Eastvedt, of Dubuque, and Norval Weis, of Aledo, Texas; six grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Steve, Kristen, Adam, and Katie; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas and Kinnick.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Weis; a sister, Isabelle Weis; a brother, Harold Weis; two stepbrothers; and seven stepsisters.
