SPRINGBROOK, Iowa - Leo M. Weis, 86, of Springbrook, died Monday morning, Jan. 20, 2003, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook, with the Rev. Donald J. Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kingery Funeral Home, Bellevue, and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

He was born on July 26, 1916, in Springbrook, son of Charles and Margaret (Etringer) Weis.

He married Erma Portz on Oct. 26, 1937, in Springbrook. They farmed for 53 years south of Springbrook, then moved to Springbrook after retiring in 1991.

He had been an active member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church his entire life.

He enjoyed farming, gardening and spending time with his children, grandchildren and his great-grandson. His hobbies in his later years included clockmaking, woodworking and helping Erma make quilts.

Surviving are his wife, Erma; two daughters, Juanita (Richard) Cottrell and Maxine (Steve) Eastvedt, both of Dubuque; three sons, Lonnie (Vicki Manikowski) Weis, of Maquoketa, Dwain (Beckie) Weis, of Miles, and Norvel Weis, of Aledo, Texas; six grandchildren, Amanda (Mrs. Rodney) Bratthauer, of DeWitt, Matthew Weis, of Cedar Falls, Steve Eastvedt II, of Provo, Utah, Kristen (Mrs. Jesse) Swope, of Laie, Hawaii, Adam Weis, of Maquoketa, and Katie Eastvedt, of Dubuque; and a great-grandson, Jacob Bratthauer, of DeWitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Magdalena Hoffman; and four brothers, Nicholas, Oris, Walter and Herbert.

Leo's family would like to express their gratitude to the Mill Valley staff for their compassionate care.
