She was born on July 16, 1925, in Bellevue, daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Malone) Lampe.

She married Donald (Nip) Stuart on Sept. 5. 1944, in Colorado Springs, Colo. They were married for 64 years until his death on Nov. 13, 2008.

Throughout her lifetime, Madonna shared her many gifts and talents with her family, friends and neighbors. She instilled her own love of learning in her daughters. She was an excellent seamstress, making everything from Easter outfits to prom dresses. Madonna was able to create tasty meals from whatever Nip brought home from the woods. These same traits translated into her commitment as a 4-H leader and Campfire leader. She also volunteered at St. Joseph's hot lunch program and the school library for 10 years.

Madonna also will be remembered by the community for her volunteer work at the Young Museum and for greeting guests at the Tourist Center in Bellevue. Her dedicated work at the Bellevue Public Library for 17 years brought a new sense of fulfillment to her life. She loved tracing her family genealogy and was instrumental in helping compile a published edition of the Lampe family history. She was the oldest of 10 children and was dearly loved and respected by her family.

Surviving are her four children, Pam (Dick) Cheney, of Dubuque, Paula (Chuck) Prada, of Viera, Fla., Portia Holloway, of Bellevue, and Sheila (Mark) Kelley, of Platteville, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Christina and Christopher Cheney, Charles (Alison) Prada, Andrew Prada, Matthew (Diana) Holloway, Stephen (Amber) Kelley, Jenna, Bridget and Samantha Kelley; three great-grandchildren, Ben, Nicholas and Marx; brothers, Lewis Lampe and Ron (Scherie) Lampe; and three sisters, Orvetta Conrad, Annabelle Alford and Barbara Loeb; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ardell Lampe and Frederick Lampe; and two sisters, Phyllis Leendertse and Evelyn Cadle.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hachmannfuneralhome.com.

The family would like to thank Third Floor South staff of Stonehill Care Center for their compassionate and dignified care. The family also acknowledges with gratitude the team from Hospice of Dubuque.
