Donald Stuart
(March 5, 1923 - November 13, 2008)Donald "Nippy" Stuart, 85 of Bellevue, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 18 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue officiated by Father Stephen Meyer. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery where American Legion Post #273 will accord full military rites. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 17 at Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home and again Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:30 until procession to the church.
Donald was born on March 5, 1923 in Bellevue, son of Rodney and Elsie (Jones) Stuart. He married Madonna Lampe on September 5, 1944 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Donald was a World War II veteran who served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He was a hardworking man who was a carpenter for over 70 years. He was a mentor to many in the community. He was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed hunting rattlesnakes. He was a member of the Bellevue Fire Department and the American Legion Post #273.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Madonna; four children, Pam (Dick) Cheney, of Dubuque, Paula (Chuck) Prada, of Viera, Florida, Portia Holloway, of Bellevue, and Sheila (Mark) Kelley, of Platteville, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Christina and Christopher Cheney, Charles (Alison) and Andrew Prada, Matthew Holloway, Stephen, Jenna, Bridget, and Samantha Kelley; and two great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Lyman Stuart; and four sisters, Louise Sanders, Gwendalyn Jess, Katherine Davis, and June Williams. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their care and compassion shown to Donald and his family, a special thanks to Tina Kelchen for being a great friend and caregiver and Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home, especially Ben for their guidance through this difficult time.
