BELLEVUE, Iowa - Gregory J. Kueter, 87, of Bellevue, died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at home surrounded by his family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue, with the Rev. Father Scott Bullock officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 273. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Kingery Funeral Home. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home until procession to the church.

He was born on July 2, 1921, in Bellevue, son of John and Mary (Sieverding) Kueter. He married Imelda Manderscheid on Sept. 14, 1950, at Holy Rosary Church in La Motte.

Greg was a World War II veteran who served in the Army with Company "B" 727th Amphibian Tractor Battalion in the South Pacific.

He farmed north of Bellevue until 1988. After retiring, he continued to help his son Stan on the family farm.

He was warm-hearted, full of faith and always had a big smile. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and watching ball games with family and friends on the deck. Greg was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was very proud of his family and loved family gatherings. Greg will be deeply missed by all.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Imelda; six children, Lila (Tom) Rieckens, of Coronado, Calif., Nancy (Joe) Ploessl and Stan (Sandy) Kueter, both of Bellevue, Mary Jane "Mick" (Mike) Wolter, of Dubuque, and Chuck (Sharon) Kueter and Jan (Dave) Brinker, both of Bellevue; two granddaughters, Tracy (Mark) Oliver and Katie (Michael Peterson) Ploessl; 13 grandsons, Scott Rieckens, Brett (Tami) Ploessl, Travis (Cortney) Kueter, Jesse (Jackie Sears) Kueter, Jared and Tyler Kueter, Jacob and Nathan Wolter, Nic (Heidi) Kueter, Ben (Shannon) Kueter, John Kueter and Ryan and Alex Brinker; five great-granddaughters; two brothers, Paul (Armella) Kueter, of Prairie du Chien, and Milo (Mary) Kueter, of Bellevue; and three sisters, Cleta (Harold) Herrig, of Bellevue, Elaine (Quentin) Schumacher, of Dubuque, and Ceil (Lorin) Hager, of Pahrump, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Nestor and Ralph; and his mother and father-in-law, Leroy and Mary Manderscheid.
