Luella T. Kilburg, 96 of Bellevue, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at Mill Valley Care Center, surrounded by her loving family

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 26 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, at Kingery~Lemke Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 3:30 and a Scripture Service at 7:00. Friends may also call Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 until the start of mass.

Luella Hoffmann, daughter of John and Mary (Demplewolf) Hoffmann, was born on September 13, 1912 on the family farm. She attended country school and later worked in Dubuque as a housekeeper.

Luella married Melvin Kilburg on November 10, 1921 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue by Fr. Linkenmeyer. Five children were born into this marriage. Melvin preceded her in death on April 6, 1992.

Luella was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook and a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael #1156. She was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and served in the American Catholic Council of Women. Luella was active in the Springbrook Senior Citizens and the Springbrook Quilters.

Luella will be remembered as a kind-hearted woman who lovingly took care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting, and playing cards. Luella’s gracious hospitality was known to many. Her strong faith was evident in her prayerful devotion to Mary as the rosary was one of her favorite prayers.

Survivors include two sons, Carl (Maureen) Kilburg, of Maquoketa, Dennis (Liz) Kilburg, of Springbrook; a daughter, Darlis (Bill) Croce, of Maquoketa; and a daughter in-law, Alice Kilburg, of Bellevue. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jane (Dave) Heiar, Judy (Dave) Herrig, Carole (Joe) Kies, Barb (John) Flammang, Terry (Rose) Kilburg, Rhonda (Tim) Countryman, Debbie (Dennis) Ties, Chris Kilburg, Kelly (Brian) Peebles, Khristy (Jay) Rollinger, Billy John Croce, Erin Kilburg, Cassie (Evan) Sikkema, and Brent Kilburg; 32 great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Zimmer, of Bellevue and Coletta McDermott, of Epworth; and two sisters in-law, Jean Hoffmann, of Bellevue and Elnora Kilburg, of Dubuque.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; sons, Lorin and Mahlon; grandson Keith Croce; great great granddaughter Lauren Herrig; sister, Rosella Feller; and brothers, Joe and Allan Hoffmann.

The Family wishes to thank the staff at the Sunrise Villa, Mill Valley Care Center and Hospice of Jackson County for the care they provided to Luella.
