ST. DONATUS, Iowa - Services for Julian A. Herrig, 73, 106 Dubildchen Drive North, St. Donatus, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Donatus Catholic Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery, where a flag presentation will be accorded by the American Legion, Post 6, of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., Dubuque, where there will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Herrig worked with the Jackson County Maintenance Department for 38 years.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1923, in Dubuque, son of John and Mary (Theilen) Herrig. He died at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 1996, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque.

He married Marie Abing Kalmes on Oct. 17, 1981.

He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of St. Donatus Parish and its holy name society.

Surviving are his wife, Marie, at home; five stepsons, Gary (and Rita) Kalmes, of Richmond, Va., Darrell (and Diane) Kalmes, of Beaver Dam, Wis., Doug Kalmes (and his fiancee Bonnie Boss), of Aledo, Ill., Greg (and Jeanie) Kalmes, of St. Donatus, and Steve (and Dee) Kalmes, of Springville; three stepdaughters, Jean (and Steve) Sieverding, of Bellevue, Beth (and Jeff) Kaiser, of Dubuque, and Denise Kalmes, of Preston; 10 step-grandchildren; four brothers, Albert Herrig, of La Motte, and Wilfred "Jim" (and Florence) Herrig, Edmund (and Donna) Herrig and William (and Joan) Herrig, all of Dubuque; and three sisters, Alvina Hoxmeier and Hilda Koch, both of Dubuque, and Lucille (and Bob) McAndrew, of Bernard.

He was preceded in death by a step-grandson, Scott Sieverding, on Dec. 6, 1991; three brothers; and one sister.

Memorials may be given to St. Donatus Catholic Church.
