LA MOTTE, Iowa - Albert P. Herrig, 95, of La Motte, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, La Motte. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 273 of Bellevue. Visitation was Nov. 22, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there was a parish wake service and a Knights of Columbus rosary. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. today at the church.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1910, in La Motte, son of John M. and Mary (Thielen) Herrig.

He married Mary Nemmers on Oct. 3, 1959, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, La Motte; she preceded him in death on April 11, 1989.

He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in San Francisco, and in India.

Following his service to his country, he farmed in the La Motte area.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 273 of Bellevue, The Knights of Columbus Council 4236 of La Motte, and a former Grand Knight and Holy Rosary Parish and its Rosary Society. He also served as a Farm Bureau Director for two terms.

Albert had a great love of nature and was the self proclaimed best euchre player in Jackson County.

Surviving are two brothers, Edmund (Madonna) Herrig and William "Bill" (Joan) Herrig, both of Dubuque; a sister, Lucille McAndrew, of Bernard; a sister-in-law, Marie Herrig, of Dubuque; a step-son, Stan (Marilee) Nemmers; step-daughters-in-law, Kathleen and Kay Nemmers, both of La Motte; many step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-sons, Kenneth and Wayne Nemmers; three sisters, Ermina Koch, Alvina Hoxmeier and Hilda Koch; and five brothers, Norbert, Arthur, Arnold, Julian "Jukes" and Wilfred.

Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
