BELLEVUE, Iowa - Richard N. Roling died August 17, 2005, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa, surrounded by friends and his loving family. He was 83 years old.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Kingery Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bellevue. A Mass celebrating his life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue, with Father Steven Meyer officiating. A Richard N. Roling Memorial Fund has been established.

He was born November 17, 1921, one of 13 children to Joseph L. and Helena (Steichen) Roling. He married Carolyn Kilburg on September 12, 1945. He graduated from St. Joseph High School, Bellevue. Rich and Carol farmed for 23 years west of Bellevue. He then worked for Frommelt Industries in Dubuque for 10 years and operated Roling Tent and Awning Company in Bellevue. He was a member of St. Joseph's parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Richard enjoyed fishing, growing flowers, wood working and cheering for his beloved Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; three sons, Gene, Savannah, N.Y., Phil (Jackie), Eldridge, Iowa, and Steve (Peggy), Bellevue; four daughters, Jane (Emil) Kucirek, Bellevue, Wash., Joyce, Davenport, Iowa, Julie (Wayne) Goodwin, Davenport, Iowa, and Jennifer (Jack) Edwards, Salem, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Stacey Fondell, Ames, Iowa, Kathy Roling, Kansas City, Mo., Jill (Nick) Scarson, Bozeman, Mont., Allison Roling, Syracuse, N.Y., Dan Roling, Eldridge, Iowa, Ryan, Michael, Christina Roling, and Bobby Fondell, all from Bellevue; one great-grandchild, Isabella Roling, Bellevue; two sisters, Isabelle Stillmunkes and Lucille Merkes, of Dubuque; and three brothers, Glenn (Marcy) and Orville (Rosemary), all of Bellevue, and Aloysius (Leona), of Peosta, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Vincent, Arthur and Raymond, and sisters, Bernice, Estelle, Ida and Virginia.
