Deceased Name: IDA A. HERRIG

Mrs. Cletus (Ida A.) Herrig, 67, 1577 Delhi St., died after a long battle with cancer at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1996, at home with her family.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish wake service at 5 p.m.

Mrs. Herrig was a licensed practical nurse and for many years practiced at the former Xavier Hospital and at The Finley Hospital. She also worked at the Dubuque County Nursing Home and Loras College.

She was born on April 19, 1929, in Bellevue, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Helen (Steichen) Roling. She married Cletus W. Herrig on Oct. 5, 1955.

For many years, she was active in Nativity Parish, where she served as president of the Nativity Women's Guild and was a member of the Nativity School Board. Ida was instrumental in the fund-raising and restoration of the Way of the Cross in St. Donatus, Iowa. She and her husband served as foster parents for years and were involved with Hillcrest Family Care Services in the 1960s. They were also a host family for foreign college students.

Ida will be dearly missed by those surviving her, including her husband, Cletus Herrig; four daughters, Rachel (Dana) Jenson, of Yankton, S.D., Beth (Vince) Volz and Regina Herrig, both of Lees Summit, Mo., and Stacia (Eric) Reddish, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Ned (Sue) Herrig, of Dubuque, and Nick (Debra) Herrig, of Vacaville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Isabelle Stillmunkes and Lucille (John) Merkes, both of Dubuque, and Virginia Deppe, of Bellevue; and six brothers, Arthur Roling, of Green Island, Iowa, and Raymond (Rita) Roling, Richard (Carol) Roling, Glenn (Marcy) Roling, and Orville (Rosemary) Roling, all of Bellevue, and Aloysius (Leona) Roling, of Peosta, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Bernice Heim and Estelle Kilburg; and her brother, Vincent Roling.

The family requests no flowers. An Ida A. Herrig Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank those who called, visited and sent flowers while Ida was living.
