Priscilla E. Heiar, 97, of Bancroft, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at Heritage Nursing Home, Bancroft.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church, Bancroft, with the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 3 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1901, in Bancroft, daughter of Nicholas B. and Anna Schiltz. She married Clem Heiar on Feb. 7, 1928, in Bancroft.
She graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in Bancroft, and attended the teachers college in Cedar Falls. She taught in country schools until her marriage. The couple moved to the Dubuque area and farmed until moving back to Bancroft in 1943, where they purchased their farm.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers and house plants and playing cards. She was a lifetime member of the Foresters, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Altar Society and the Senior Citizens. She also was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Bancroft.
Surviving are two daughters, Theresa (Michael) Leners, of Bancroft, and Mildred (Dr. Arthur) Haag, of Ottumwa, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 13, 1978; her parents; five sisters; and two brothers.
