Herman M. Steines
Mr. Herman M. Steines, 82, of 2444 W. 32nd St., died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps League and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Association. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a Holy Ghost Catholic Church Parish Christian wake service at 4 p.m.
Mr. Steines worked for 39 years at John Deere Dubuque Works prior to retiring in 1982. He also farmed since 1949 on the north end of Dubuque.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1920, in Springbrook, Iowa, son of Henry and Kate (Heiar) Steines. He married Agnes E. Engling on Oct. 10, 1944, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Buena Vista, Iowa.
He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, the United Automobile Workers Union Local 94 and was a World War II Army veteran, having served in both Germany and Alaska.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren in his spare time.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes E. (Engling) Steines; a daughter, Mary Lou Steines, of Dubuque; five sons, Leon H. (Dorothy) Steines, of Bernard, Iowa, and Robert M. (Donna), Thomas S., Joseph L., and Tim P. (Lynn) Steines, all of Dubuque; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Melinda Kunkel and Elverda Engling, both of Dubuque; two brothers, Lawrence (Isabelle) Steines, of Dyersville, Iowa, and LeRoy (Betty) Steines, of Dubuque; a daughter-in-law, Lorrie Steines, of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Edith Mae Steines, of Keokuk, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard L. Steines, on Nov. 2, 1995; and two brothers, Henry Steines Jr. and Sylvester Steines.
A Herman M. Steines Memorial Fund has been established by his family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Finley Hospital and the staff and doctors at Dubuque Internal Medicine for their loving care given to our husband, father and grandfather.
