Aged Jackson County Resident Laid to RestAfter an illness of several days caused by pneumonia and complications, Charles L. Eastman, an aged and well known resident of Jackson county, died Wednesday night at Andrew at the age of 81 years.
Charles Lester Eastman was born Dec. 17, 1846, in Illinois and came to Iowa when a young man and located near Maquoketa. He was married to Charity Welch at Maquoketa in 1866 and they resided on a farm north of town until the failing health of both him and his wife compelled them to leave the farm several years ago and they moved to this city. He also lived for a time in Clinton and at Andrew, where he passed away.
Besides his sorrowing wife he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. James Bradley of Maquoketa, Mrs. Edson Hogg of Fulton, Ia., Mrs. Janie Smith of Clinton, Mrs. Will Ralston of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. C. C. Merritt of Clinton, Mrs. D. M. Flynn of Fulton and three sons, I. E. Eastman of Fulton, Frank and Orville of Clinton. One son, William, died at the age of three years. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, four brothers, John Eastman of Hawarden, Ia., Albert of Portland, Ore., Oz, of Sioux Falls, S. D., and Dick of Dubuque, and four sisters, Mrs. Dennis Merrick of Baldwin, Mrs. Neal Summers of Wisconsin, Mrs. Jesse Parmer of Portland Ore., and Mrs. Mary Bronson of Council Bluffs, Ia.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Friday at Buchner's chapel, Rev. E. G. Hunt officiating. Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Staack sang consolingly. Burial was made in the family lot in Esgate cemetery.
