The funeral services of Mrs. Emma Allison-Work occurred at the M. E. church in this city Thursday, March 27, 1902, conducted by Rev. R. D. Parsons, Mrs. Work was born in Coulterville, Penn., June 10, 1850, and came with her parents to Bellevue when a little child, and there grew to womanhood. October 2, 1869, she was married to Mr. Joseph Work, and the same year they came to Maquoketa which has since been their home. To them four daughters were born – Mrs. Ross Smith of Spirit Lake, Mrs. H. V. Hall and Mrs. J. B. Quick of Clinton. One daughter died in infancy. Her brothers and sisters are five, two of whom, Mrs. F. V. Morgan and D. M. Allison reside in this city. She died of paralysis after a lingering illness. She was a member of the M. E. church and held in esteem by those associated with her.
