Maquoketa Record, April 2, 1902

Ira Lenker died at his home in Preston at one-thirty o’clock Thursday morning, March 27, 1902. Deceased was born near Maquoketa August 27, 1864, and was educated in our city schools. He was a bright and active young man who enjoyed the love and esteem of his many friends. He moved to Preston in 1895, where he started in the milling business, and where he resided until his death. He was married to Miss Jennie A. Maskrey on July 27, 1899, who survives him, together with his mother and two sisters, Minnie and Ella, to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband, son and brother.

Mr. Lenker was taken seriously ill the week previous to his death, with obstruction of the bowels, and was operated upon the following Tuesday morning. He rallied, but lacked the necessary vitality to carry him through, and passed out as above stated.

The body was brought to this city Friday morning and the funeral services were held at the home of his mother Saturday afternoon, Rev. Shepherd officiating. The floral tributes offered by friends were very beautiful and much appreciated by the family. Jackson lodge No. 33, I. O. O. F., of which he was an honored member, attended the funeral in a body.
