Marguerite Hartley
Marguerite M. Hartley, 74, of Maquoketa and formerly of Mason City, died Thursday morning, Feb. 27, 1997 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Carson & Son Funeral Home in Maquoketa, with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Maquoketa officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
Visitation was held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hartley was born May 19, 1922 in Rossville, Iowa to Cloyd and Linniea Winger Pettit. She received a teaching certificate from the University of Dubuque. She received a master’s degree in elementary education and reading from Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash.
She became an elementary school teacher and taught at several area schools for many years. In 1985 she was baptized and became a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Maquoketa.
She had resided in Mason City for 20 years.
She loved reading, visiting with people, flower gardening and keeping a diary of her personal experiences of the day and was known for her storytelling.
Survivors include a sister, Claudette (Mrs. Rex) Kersten of Maquoketa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Clark K. Krohn, on June 17, 1993.
A memorial fund has been established.
