William S. “Bill” Hainstock

William S. “Bill” Hainstock, 67, of rural Delmar died Saturday afternoon, March 1, 1997 at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial was in Scared Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Carson & Son Funeral Home in Maquoketa, where a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service was held.

Mr. Hainstock was born Jan. 23, 1930 in Jackson County to Rex and Vashti Scott Hainstock. He graduated from Delmar High School in 1948.

He married Ruth A. Gockel on Aug. 12, 1953 in Dubuque. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had farmed in the Maquoketa area all his life. He also was a seed corn salesman for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa.

He loved gardening and flowers.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Debra (Mrs. Gary) Pontenberg of Tarboro, N.C., and Barbara (Mrs. Shannon) Elmore of Ekalaka, Mont.; two sons, William B. (and Wendy) Hainstock and Richard L. (and Mary Jo) Hainstock, both of rural Maquoketa; two sisters, Phyllis (Mrs. John) Campbell of Monticello and Lois Laschansky of Clarence; three grandchildren and two step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Lee S. Hainstock.

A memorial fund has been established.
