Mrs. Waddell Dies at Home in This City
Death Occurs on Thursday After Prolonged Illness; Funeral Service Will Be Held Saturday.

Mrs. James Waddell, 82, died at her home on N. Eliza street at 2:15 a.m. Thursday following an illness of several months duration.

Eliza Jane Elkins, daughter of Robert and Eliza Elkins, was born on Oct. 17, 1851, she was united in marriage to James Waddell and together they came to Iowa in February, 1878, residing on a farm west of Andrew until 1910 when they moved to Nebraska living on a homestead there for two years. She returned to Maquoketa in 1914 and has since resided at the home on N. Eliza street. Mr. Waddell died Jan. 2, 1917. Two children preceded her in death, Bessie who died in infancy and Ross who passed away May 5 of the present year.

Surviving are six children, Mrs. S. M. Walker of Edgewood, Mrs. L. D. Rhea of Clinton, Mrs. H. M. Moffet of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. C. B. Breeden of Casanovia, Mich., Robert and J. C. both of this community. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. S. K. Pontsier of this city, 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian church of Andrew and attended as long as health permitted. Mrs. Waddell was a kind mother, devoting her life to her family, and will be sadly missed by them, and her neighbors and friends.

A short service will be held at the home at 1 o’clock and the funeral service will be held at the United Presbyterian church at Andrew at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon. The Rev. A. J. McConnell will officiate and burial will be made in the Andrew cemetery.
