Everett Schoenthaler

Everett L. Schoenthaler, 89, of Maquoketa, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 9, 1989 at Jackson County Public Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 at Haylock-O’Hara & Lahey Funeral Home.

The Rev. Richard Eis of United Methodist Church, Maquoketa will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Schoenthaler was born May 26, 1900 in Elwood to Charles and OTilla Rutenbeck Schoenthaler. He married Dorothy Phillips July 16, 1927 in Dubuque.

He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law. On Sept. 25, 1926, he started the Schoenthaler and Lee Law Firm in Maquoketa with partner H. K. Lee. He retired in October 1986 after 60 years.

Mr. Schoenthaler was a member of United Methodist Church, Knights of Pythias Lodge, Maquoketa, past president of Rotary International of Maquoketa and a 50-year member of the Helion Lodge No. 36 of Maquoketa. He had served as chairman of the board during construction and planning of Jackson County Public Hospital continuing to serve following completion. He was active with the Salvation Army.

Survivors include his wife, two daughter, Sue (Mrs. George) Spalding of Maquoketa, Carol (Mrs. R. T.) Myren of Washington, Iowa; one son, David of Maquoketa; 10 grand-children; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Aria (Mrs. E. C.) Pendlebury of LaPorte City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and Dr. A. C. Schoenthaler and one sister, Laura.
