Dorothy Schoenthaler, 100, of Maquoketa died Thursday morning, April 4, 2002 at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, at Haylock-O’Hara & Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. The Rev. Clair Odell of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Visitations will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schoenthaler was born Dec. 25, 1901 in Maquoketa to Dr. Ed and Cadd (Ellis) Phillips.

She married Everett Schoenthaler on July 16, 1927. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1989.

She was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of the First United – Methodist Church in Maquoketa and a 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star, and a longtime supporter of the Salvation Army.

She liked people and always enjoyed a good laugh with family and friends.

She lived her entire life in Maquoketa and was able to continue living in her own home where she celebrated her 100th birthday on Christmas Day.

Survivors include daughters Sue (Mrs. George) Spalding of Maquoketa, Carol (Mrs. Wayne) Carpenter of Iowa City, one son, David (and Karen) Schoenthaler of Bettendorf, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Charlene Cox of DeWitt.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruth Phillips and a brother, Dr. Ben C. Phillips.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or your favorite charity.
