Services Held Wednesday For Alfred Hurst

Funeral services were held here Wednesday morning for Alfred Hurst, 43, who died at his home in Hurstville early Monday morning. The services were held at Harrison’s funeral home with the Rev. C. Edward Holyoke officiating and Helion Lodge No. 36 conducting Masonic rites. Burial was in Linwood cemetery at Cedar Rapids.

Alfred Charles Hurst, the only son of Charles F. and Georgia Hurst, was born in Maquoketa Jan. 2, 1901. From about 1920 until 1934 he lived in Cedar Rapids where he owned and operated a grocery and market, returning to Hurstville in 1934. He had served the town of Hurstville as treasurer and postmaster, and at the time of his death was mayor of the village.

For the past two years he had been in poor health, and was taken seriously ill about a week ago in Cedar Rapids, where he was putting a residence in shape preparatory to moving there in order to take personal charge of his property interests there.

He is survived by his only sister, Mrs. Ann Summers of Hurstville.
