August 24, 1944Services Held Monday for C. C. Woods
Clint C. Woods, prominent Maquoketa citizen and former Jackson county treasurer, died of a heart attack Friday morning while working on his farm, northwest of Maquoketa. Funeral services were held Monday at the Congregational church, the Rev. Allen Eddy officiating, and burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Clinton Columbus Woods was born Feb. 1, 1872 near Maquoketa, and always lived in this community. During the Spanish American War he was first sergeant with company M. 129th Infantry, and saw service in Cuba. Upon his return he was married on Jan. 23, 1901, to Miss Gertrude Hurst. He served in the county treasurer’s office for six years, first as deputy and then as treasurer. Several years ago Mr. and Mrs. Woods moved to the present home on Vermont Street, but he made almost daily trips to his farm.
He is survived by his widow, one son, Leonard, of Galesburg, Ill., a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Hedstrom of Oak Park, Ill., two brothers, Frank of Ames and Bert of Maquoketa, and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Dostal of Maquoketa.
Mr. Woods will be sadly missed by this community and all who knew him.
