Jackson Sentinel, June 14, 1883.

IN MEMORIAM

Tribute to the late Shadrach Burleson, who was born in the Town of Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont, September 19, 1805. On the 8th of February, 1823, he was married to Miss Emma J. Houghton of Waterford, New York. In 1836 he came to Iowa, where he has lived ever since. In many respects he was a remarkable man, and he has filled a large place in this community. Blessed by nature with a strong mind, he used it for the bettering of those with whom he associated.. His highest aim through life was daily demonstrating the force of good character. His advice was always given to the young readily, and if appreciated, now he has passed away, many will profit from it. No short newspaper notice can speak of the good work done by so noble and honest man. Only those with whom his life was spent can know. He lived to the age of 78 years. His work is finished. He gave his family the assurances he was ready to go to that home whence no traveler returns. He will be missed.
