Benjamin Bloore

Benjamin Bloore, son of Samuel and Catherine Bloore, was born Sept. 3, 1842, in Birmingham, England, and died at his old homestead Saturday evening, June 28, at 7 o’clock, aged 76 years, 9 months and 25 days.

He came to Maquoketa, Iowa, in the winter of 1869. On March 1, 1871, he was married to Lucina Chafee, at Wheatland, Ia. They went to housekeeping on the old homestead where he has lived ever since.

Six children were born to them Mrs. Catherine Leffingwell of Davenport; Samuel of Elwood, Charles of Onslow; Mrs. Elizabeth Potter of Wheatland and Mrs. Ida Hill of Centerville, Ia. George the youngest child died in July, 1912.

Mr. Bloore is also survived by two brothers in England, Edwin and Charles. His wife preceded him in death Dec. 31, 1903.

He was a member of the Episcopal church of England and was a thorough bible student. He kept up the study of the Sunday school lessons to within a short time of his death. Mr. Bloore will be remembered as a man who loved his home and who by an upright example and instruction succeeded in making his home life a success. He was a good husband and loving father as well as a loyal friend. He was a man of few and carefully chosen words and carried a clean cut dignity which won the respect of all who knew him.

Funeral services were held from the Elwood M. E. church at 2 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. J. Snyder. Burial was made in the Elwood cemetery.
