TUBBS-
John Tubbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Tubbs was born Aug. 28, 1862, at Rockville. He moved to Maquoketa about the year 1887, when he united in marriage with Miss Catherine Zitterell. To this union were born two sons, Benjamin of this city, and Roy who holds a position in Webster City. March 10th 1907, Mr. Tubbs, with his son, Benjamin went to Chamberlain, South Dakota, where he purchased a claim and also bought out a restaurant and sent word for his wife who had made preparations to leave Tuesday afternoon, but received the sad news of her husband’s death on Monday. Mr. Tubbs complained only for a few days, He was confined to his bed Monday afternoon, when he suffered two hemorrhages from which he never regained consciousness.
He was deputy sheriff and jailer at one time and held other positions of trust. A wife, two sons, two sisters, Mrs. Z. F. Patterson and Mrs. William Keeley, two brothers, Edward of Tama City and Sidney of this city, survive.
His remains arrived in the city Wednesday a. m. and were taken to the home of his wife’s father, John Zitteral, from which place the funeral services will take place this afternoon at 2 o’clock.
