April 7th, 1890EDS. SENTINEL: -About the saddest death we have yet had to report, is the sudden demise of Miss Martha Lamy, who passed away on the 1st inst., after only four days illness, Miss Martha was just budding into womanhood and was a modest, intelligent and loveable young lady. She was the first of the children to be called from a happy family consisting of nine, and the blow fell heavily upon the grief stricken family. The deceased was a twin, aged 21 years, 2 months and 21 days.
None knew her but to love her, nor named her but to praise. Is it when spring’s first gale comes forth to whisper where the violets lie? Is it when roses in our path grow pale? They have one season – all are ours to die.
The funeral services were held at the family residence. Thursday last, Rev. Hannah officiating, and the remains were interred in the Smithtown cemetery, according to her wish. The afflicted family have the sympathy of the entire community.
