July 16, 1918Obituary
S. Clark Jordan was born in Frostburg, Pa., May 27, 1857, and came west to visit a cousin, John Jordan, in Clinton over 50 years ago. Later he came to Lost Nation and followed the teaching profession. He was principal of the Lost Nation schools for five years, 1889 to 1894, and lived in Lost Nation until 1900.
Sept. 25, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Sadie M. Camp of near Canton. This union was blessed with three sons, Ira of Chicago, James of Punxatawney, Pa., and Charles of Frostburg, Pa. He went with his family to Frostburg in 1900, where because of the condition of his heath he engaged in farming until December, 1917, when his health gave out and he came to Chicago for medical treatment. Here at the home of his wife’s sister, Mrs. Wm. J. White, where a son also stayed, he received medical aid, but all that medical skill and loving hands could do was of no avail and he passed away Thursday, July 11, 1918, death resulting from progressive atrophy or lateral sclerosis, at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 14 days.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Frostburg and a teacher of the young ladie’s Bible class in the Sunday school as long as health permitted. He was a charter member of Harbor Lodge A. F. & A. M. No. 556, Lost Nation, and was a member of the same when he died.
Besides the sorrowing wife and three sons, his aged mother and sister Lydia of Punxsutawney, Pa., and other relatives survive to mourn his passing away.
The body was accompanied to Lost Nation on Friday by the wife and son Ira, also Mr. and Mrs. W. T. White, and funeral services were held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jud Jenkins on Saturday, July 13, at 1:30 p.m. and at the Union church, Lost Nation at 2 p.m. Burial was made in Lost Nation cemetery under Lost Nation Masonic lodge auspices, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating. The floral tribute of friends was beautiful. Mr. and Mrs. John Jordan and daughter of Clinton, Mrs. E. R. Crane and mother, Mrs. Belden of Maquoketa were at the funeral, besides other friends from Baldwin, Monmouth and Canton.
