Obituary.

Lyman Henry Hovey, son of Charles and Drusilla Hovey, was born in Jones county, near Canton, Iowa, May 10, 1896, and after a lingering illness died at his home near Canton, Dec. 27, 1917, at 1 a.m. at the age of 21 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Two years ago he was married to Miss Esther Bollinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bollinger, now of Minnesota. Two sons blessed this union, Richard Lyman and Harold Elsworth, who together with the wife survive. His was a sunny disposition in spite of the trials he was called upon to bear. Himself left motherless at the age of two years, he was cared for by his father and only sister, and now when life seemed so bright to him with the love of his wife and babes, it is sad to think of his passing away.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by his father, who made his home with him, one sister, Mrs. Lydia Ralston and two brothers, Ross and Clifford, an elder brother, Ellsworth having preceded him in death. Stricken by the dread disease, tuberculosis, his was an unequal fight for life. Twenty-one years of age seemed too young to die, but medical skill and the constant care of his young wife were of no avail and to her with the two fatherless babes, our hearts go out with deepest sympathy.

Funeral services were held from the home one-half mile southwest of Canton at 10:30 a.m. and sermon at the Canton church at 11 a.m. Friday, December 28, and burial at Hickory Grove cemetery. A large number of friends gathered to pay last earthly tribute to the departed, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating.
