Mrs. Riley Calkins, Aged 93 Years,
Passes Away Early Wednesday Morning.
Burial in Wyoming.

Mrs. Riley Calkins, one of Maquoketa’s oldest residents, passed away early Wednesday morning at her home on East Platt street.

Mrs. Calkins had been afflicted with cancer of the face and suffered severely for many years. During the past two years, she was most tenderly cared for by her sister, Mrs. Fannie Smith, who left her own home in San Francisco and came to this city that she might minister to the wants and comforts of Mrs. Calkins.

Mary Anne House was born on January 14, 1825, in Jefferson country, New York.

When 25 years of age she was united in marriage to Riley Calkins. After their marriage they came west and were residents of this city for many years. Mr. Calkins preceded his wife in death some 19 years ago.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter; Marcellus W. of Webster city, Iowa; Lester of Omaha, Neb.; George of this city, and Mrs. Lucinda Countryman of Limerick, N. Y., also two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Smith and Mrs. Ella Sherman of Olin.

The funeral service was held yesterday afternoon at three o’clock from the late home on Platt street, Rev. J. J. Kidder officiating.

The body was placed in the Mausoleum.
