Helene Peters

Helene Peters, 85, of Baldwin, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Jackson County Public Hospital. Miss Peters during her life was an educator in the Baldwin School system for 17 years and organized the first Campfire Girls group.

Her funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the Carson Funeral Home. The Reverend James Campbell of the United Methodist Churches in Baldwin and Monmouth will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the Pence Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Carson Funeral Home in Maquoketa after 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

Miss Peters was born Sept. 5, 1889 at Baldwin to Henry and Gesina Wehage Peters. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1906, attended Cornell College and the State Teacher’s College at Cedar Falls. She was also a member of the Baldwin Methodist Church and member of the Baldwin Woman’s Club.

Her survivors include one sister, Mrs. Olga Hinchliffe, Baldwin, and one nephew, Omar Peters, Baldwin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
