Elmer Hayward

Elmer Hayward, 79, of Maquoketa, died Monday, Jan. 13, at Knoxville.

His funeral services will be today, Thursday, Jan. 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the Carson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Military services will also be held at the cemetery.

Hayward was born Jan. 1, 1896 in Maquoketa to Marion and Mary Shields Hayward. On Dec. 6, 1928 he married Leona Collins in Maquoketa. A retired area farmer, he was also a World War One veteran.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Eleanor) Kreger, Maquoketa, and Doris at home; one brother, Walter of Maquoketa; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Weigel, Mrs. Nettie Petersen and Mrs. Opal Engel; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
