Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Elwood United Methodist Church for Forrest “Jack” Kleinsmith, 53, of Elwood. He died early Oct. 16 at Jackson County Public Hospital of a lingering illness. The Rev. Al Rusk will officiate at the church service and military rites will be accorded at the church cemetery by the DeWitt American Legion. Jack Kleinsmith was born June 12, 1931 at Wheatland to Forrest and Maureen Thompson Kleinsmith. On July 10, 1952 he married Elinor Adrian at Elwood. They farmed for many years in the Elwood area and he then worked for W. G. Block in Maquoketa. He was a member of the Elwood United Methodist Church, Helion Masonic Lodge of Lost Nation, and Kaaba Shrine in Davenport. He served as a member of the Lost Nation school board for nine years. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steven of Elwood, Michael of Mt. Vernon and Paul of Lost Nation; three sisters, Mrs. Dale (LuJean) Scott of Maquoketa, Mrs. Helen Marie Bennett of Michigan, Mrs. John (Karman) Jamison of Wyoming; one brother, Clyde of Wheatland, and two granddaughters. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Haylock, O’Hara and Kedley Funeral Home, Maquoketa.
