"Sam Collins, a young man aged 21 years was at Wheeler's Ford some miles below Bridgeport, with a number of companions in bathing, about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. He got beyond his depth and called for help. The other boys went to his assistance and succeeded in getting the young man very near shore when he went down again and for the last time. Search was soon instituted for the body and about sunrise Monday morning it was found in twelve feet of water. The young man's parents lived not far from the river and the funeral took place from their home Monday afternoon." - Jul 31, 1890, Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa.

I believe this is the son of Sam R. & Lucinda (Earles) Collins of Perry Twp.
