Obituaries
Earl H. Berendes

Funeral services for Earl Berendes, 60 of 103 North Second Street, Bellevue, who was slain Thursday morning, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gallagher Funeral Home in Bellevue after 7:30 p.m. Saturday; a scripture service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Berendes was born March 20, 1909 in Bellevue, the son of Ed and Lena Kueter Berendes. He was married to Sylvia Frantzen in St. Donatus.

Surviving are his wife; two sons Earl Jr. of St. Donatus and Melvin, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Eldon (Anita) Rowan of Maquoketa and Phyllis at home; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Welbes of Dubuque, Mrs. Lena Herrig of Andrew and Mrs. Emily Klingler of Oskaloosa; and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
