George Holmes, 78, Dies; Last Rites Held in Bellevue

Bellevue, Sept. 5 – Last rites for George (Sherlock) Holmes, 78, of Bellevue, who died Saturday, Aug. 29, at Bellevue Memorial hospital, were held Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Kempter-Gallagher funeral home here. The Rev. Laurence Nelson, pastor of the Bellevue United Presbyterian church, officiated. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

Mr. Holmes was born Dec. 30, 1886, in Monticello, Ia., the son of George and Marie Jeckline Holmes. He had resided in Bellevue for many years, where once he was a salvage dealer and at one time operated a boat livery. He was a member of the local Presbyterian church.

Survivors include a brother, William Holmes of Monticello; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Nellie) Aldrich of Monticello; and a half brother, Hans Lohmahn of Williamstown, N. Y.
