Robert Franklin

Robert R. “Bob” Franklin, 43, of Maquoketa, died Saturday evening, August 11, 1997 at the home of his mother, Betty Franklin of Maquoketa, after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, at the Carson & Son Funeral Home in Maquoketa, with Rev. Belva Duncan of the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, August 15, at the funeral home.

Mr. Franklin was born August 17, 1953 in Maquoketa, to Richard and Betty Levsen Franklin. He never married.

He was a 1972 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School.

In high school, he had also attended the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo., for one year.

After graduation, he attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, and later transferred to the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

He had worked with his mother at Iowa Concrete Products in Maquoketa for several years, and he enjoyed pheasant hunting.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Franklin of Maquoketa; three sisters, Barbara (Mrs. Randy) Caudill of Chicago, Ill., Catherine Martin of St. Louis, Mo., and Pamela (Mrs. Jim) Now of Washington D. C.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

A memorial fund has been established.
