A Former Maquoketa Resident Passes Away

The death of Otto Hoffmiller who passed away Thursday morning, came as a shock to his many friends in Sterling and Rock Falls.

Although he has been in poor health for some time, he had never complained until Tuesday evening when he became suddenly ill. He was rushed to the Sterling public hospital where an operation was performed, but his condition was so serious that no hopes were entertained from the first.

Otto August Hoffmiller was born in Dubuque, Iowa, Feb. 21, 1860, and passed away at the Sterling public hospital on Thursday morning, March 6, 1924.

He was the son of August and Hulda Mathia Hoffmiller. When a young man the family moved to Maquoketa where he resided until six years ago, when they moved to Sterling, Ill., and where they have resided until his death.

On Sept. 10, 1901, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Rose Kohl. To this union were born two children. Besides his widow, the two children, Mrs. Lawrence Eaglin and the son Albert, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Fred Reinhart, all of Sterling, survive. There are also four grandchildren in Sterling, one sister, Mrs. Jos. Dostal of Maquoketa, and one brother, Albert Hoffmiller of Portland, Ore.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home and at 2:30 at the United Brethren church. He will be laid to rest in Riverside cemetery in Sterling.
