OBITUARY
William McCloy, the subject of this sketch, was born in Glenarm, Ireland, August 1839, and died Nov. 3rd, 1919, at the age of 80 years and three months.
He was the son of Welch and Jane McCloy. At the age of fourteen he came to America with his parents and located at Maquoketa, later moving to a farm east of Delmar.
On the 9th of June, 1865, he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Evaline Bennet, who died December 17th, 1890. To this union was given three daughters and five sons, namely, Mrs. Emma Zismer, Alfred and Willie of Delmar, Mrs. Ella Brown of Bellevue, Iowa, Melvin of Oildale, California and Joe at home, a son, Robert, and a daughter, Lucy, deceased.
On October 18th, 1894 he was married to Miss Agnes DeLarm. Two daughters were given to this union, Mary A. and Phoebe L.
He is survived by his wife and above named children with four sisters, Mrs. Jane Sheldon of Welton, Ia., Mrs. Mary Peck, Northboro, Ia., Miss Rosetta McCloy of Welton, Mrs. Pheoble Cole of Des Moines, Ia., one brother, Robert, of Charlotte, and ten grandchildren.
Mr. McCloy's last sickness dates back to a fall received two years ago. While not being bedfast he was in failing health until last January, when he fell sick with the grippe and has failed rapidly since that time.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church from childhood. During his last illness he endured pain without a complaint. All that medical skill and loving hands could do would not avail.
He was a kind and loving father, a good neighbor and friend, who will be greatly missed in the visinity in which he lived.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, prayer at the home 4 miles north east of Delmar at 10 a.m. and funeral sermon at the Union church at 11 a.m., and burial at Union cemetery, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating.
