John A. Wright, Jackson County Pioneer and Veteran Grocer,
Dies Monday; Funeral Service ThursdayJohn A. Wright, 90, pioneer Maquoketan and veteran grocer, died at 1:00 a.m., Monday at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Carlyle Bowman, after a brief illness.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday from the Buchner chapel and interment will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery. Maquoketa Masonic members will be in charge of the rites, and the Rev. C. Edw. Holyoke will officiate.
He is survived by one granddaughter, Mrs. Carlyle Bowman, with whom he has made his home for a number of years; a grandson, John Wright, stationed with the U. S. Army of Washington, D. C; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Wright-Jacobson, of Maquoketa, and two great-grandchildren, Miss Doris Jeanne Bowman and Charles Bowman, both of Maquoketa. A son, Howard, preceded him in death.
John A. Wright was born in England, on September 11, 1852, and had celebrated his ninetieth birthday only a short time ago. He was a son of Thomas and Suzanne Wright, who with their family, emigrated to the United States and settled in Maquoketa.
Here Mr. Wright set up his grocery business where for many years he was located on South Main street in the building now occupied by Gamble stores. Later he moved to Pleasant street retiring from business several years ago.
