November 24, 1942Funeral Service Held Monday for Judge Frank D. Kelsey
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the home for Judge Frank D. Kelsey, 82, judge of the district court, who died at his home here late Thursday afternoon following a brief illness.
The Rev. Harry Green, of the Methodist church, officiated and burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Judge Kelsey was born at Sabula on June 13, 1860, a son of Captain and Mrs. Florille Kelsey. He received his early education in the Sabula schools and at the age of 18 years came to Maquoketa to study law under G. L. Johnson.
After three years of study, he was admitted to the Iowa bar, later continuing his studies at the University of Iowa school of law. For the past ten years he has served as judge of the district court, having been appointed to the bench in 1933 by Clyde L. Herring, then governor of Iowa. In all he has been associated with the practice of law for more than 61 years.
He served as deputy county auditor for four years, two terms as auditor and county attorney, and was later democratic county chairman.
He is survived by his widow.
