Chas. H. Baker was born in Montgomery county, Penn., Sept. 29, 1834, and died at his home on South Second street Monday, Aug. 31, at 1:10 p.m. Mr. Baker came with his parents to Iowa in 1851 and on April 14, 1868 he was united in marriage to Miss Henrietta Sneath; to this union were born five children, four girls and one boy, namely: Mrs. Jennie Rockwell of this city, Mrs. Anna Scott of Delmar, George of Iron Hills, Miss Julia at home and Mrs. Cora Brimmer of Fulton, who, with the mother survive to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father. Besides his family he leaves seven brothers and sisters to mourn his loss.
Mr. Baker enlisted in Co. B, 5th Minn. Inf., and served his country faithfully for four years during the war of the Rebellion. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Geo. B. Shoemaker, will be held at the M. E. church at 2:00 this Wednesday afternoon with interment in Mt. Hope cemetery. The local G. A. R. post of which Mr. Baker was a member, will have charge of the service at the grave.
