Adaline Jackson was born in Warrensburgh, New York., Sept. 5th, 1842, and died at 10 o’clock noon Aug. 26, after a lingering illness caused by a fibrous growth of the liver. She was married to Richard S. Pike Dec. 26, 1860. To this union nine children were born, two dying in infancy. The husband and seven children – Mrs. Chas. Gustafson of Boone, L. B. of Red Oak, F. R. of Clinton, Geo. M. of Mason City, Mrs. W. A. Sherman of this city, Harry J. of Toledo and L. R. of Carroll, survive to mourn the loss of kind and indulgent wife and mother; besides sixteen grand children, one brother of Toledo, Ohio, and two sisters in New York. She united with the Episcopal church at Glens Falls, N. Y., on April 20, 1875. She with her husband and family came from Glens Falls to Boone, Iowa, 1878, thence to Maquoketa in the spring of 1884. She was very devoted to her family, always giving the members of her family her first consideration.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. T. Young, were held at the late home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with interment in Mt. Hope cemetery. Five sons and one grand son, Leroy Gustafson, acting as pall bearers.
