It becomes our duty to record the passing away of the oldest citizen of Maquoketa. Wm. Strafford, who was nearing the close of his ninety-sixth year. He was born December 26, 1807, and passed out peacefully at 9:45 Thursday morning, Sept. 10, 1903, at the home of Mrs. Jos. Whitfield where he had spent his last days. He was on our streets Tuesday and was a familiar figure to all our citizens who took an interest in him on account of his activity and friendliness. He leaves a son, William, of Chatfield, Miss., his wife having preceded him in the early 90’s.
