September 18, 1903Mrs. Amelia Lenker died at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 15, of consumption of the facial tissues. Her maiden name was Amelia Trout. She was born at Orwigsburgh, Schuylkill county, Pa., Dec. 1, 1827. There she passed the days of her girlhood. Oct. 10, 1847, she became the wife of Elias B. Lenker. Like many other of the more daring and enterprising young spirits in the east they came in 1852, as pioneers to help in subduing the wilderness of the great west. Lisbon, Iowa, was their first western home, and in 1854 they moved to a farm a mile or two southwest of this city. Here she experienced the great sorrow of losing her husband, who died Sept. 17, 1866. Ten years ago Mrs. Lenker moved to this city where she has resided until the day of her death, Sept. 15, 1908. There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lenker six children – Mrs. Maria C. Knouse of Ida Grove, Ia., Clara R. (who died April 7, 1876), Ellen, Minnie, Jessie and Ira, (who died March 27, 1902). She also leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs. Capt. Gebert, of Sioux Falls, S. D., and four brothers, Franklin, Thomas and William Trout of Maquoketa, and Geo. W., of Wamego, Kansas, besides numerous other relatives. The funeral occurred Thursday afternoon at the home on Prospect street, the nephews acting as pall bearers, Rev. Samuel Shepherd officiating.
