Maquoketa Excelsior April 12, 1890

Martha E. Lamey was born at Key Stone, Iowa, Jan. 6, 1869, and died at the old home in Key Stone, April 1, 1890, after an illness of only a few days, aged 21 years, 2 months and 25 days. She was conscious to the last and bade her friends a loving farewell. All the family was with her at the time of her death except her sisters, Sarah and Ida, who live in Chicago. Of them she spoke and wished she could see them before she died. Like the Martha of the Bible, she was a worker; always ready and willing to do for those in trouble or need. Her life was full of useful work. She is the first of the family to cross the dark river of death, but they have the blessed assurance that she is waiting to welcome them on the shining shore. On April 3, the funeral service was held at the house, conducted by Rev. J. R. A. Hanner, pastor of the Monmouth M. E. Church, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery by the Sharon Church.
